Deep Dark Beast

from Face To Face by Twelfth Day

/

about

A ‘two fingers up’ to the last track, this song is a tongue-in-cheek celebration of defiance against suppression. No matter how undermined someone may feel, the deep dark beast inside them is always there… even if it’s lying dormant. The first verse is a series of quotes and experiences collected at gigs, by us and our friends. Cliches and assumptions often offered as ‘compliments’ to female musicians. The second verse was inspired by the story of Princess Latifa, daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who attempted to escape Dubai in early 2018. Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and its amazing TV adaptation was also an inspiration. This track uses blues and rock influences and we enjoyed shredding on the harp and fiddle.
